The switch in the water heater enclosure is for changing from gas to electric.

A) The switch isn't for "changing", just "using" the electrical side of the WH if you have full hook ups. You use gas when you don't, BUT you can use BOTH for faster recovery time, if both are available.

B) The bypass valves are behind the WH, under whatever panel is above it. They have a summer or use setting, and a winter or bypass setting. Their purpose is so that when you winterize, you don't have to pump 6 gallons of anti freeze into the water heater before it starts to fill the rest of the plumbing.

Congratulations, we just bought a 179 a week ago. I have only been able to camp one night in the driveway with the grandson but it was fun. Make sure you inquire about the extra year of warranty for $150, you only have 10 days to do it. Also while registering for warranty on the appliances dometic is offering 15% off their extended warranties and you can take them out 1,2, or 3 years on the A/C and frig. So you can get a total of 5 years on those pretty reasonable if your interested. I haven't tried my rdome yet, we have been busy personalizing but we hope to make the inaugural 1st trip next weekend at Ft Pickens Florida. Its the Blue angels Homecoming Air Show in Pensacola. Good Luck

Thanks, everyone. I'm keeping this as a reference when we get to Couch!

About possible cold water intrusion to hot water stream. Contacted tech support because couldn't locate the hot water heater bypass. Bother, it is located behind the water heater and under the bed support on the 179. Not at all convenient. the bedding and mattress must be removed an then the bed support has to be unscrewed from the frame to access the bypass. When I asked why the heck would it be in such a ridiculously difficult to reach place the answer was, "because they don't want users to use the space as storage". Tech support said that it happens all the time. Ugh! Still haven't decided whether I should do it my self or require the dealer to do it. Really stupid to leave the valve opened on a brand new trailer.  Angry

It is like the 171.  The solution I've used for years - unscrew the plywood and leave the screws out permanently.  Then lift the mattress and support it with your back while you shift the plywood out of the way.  Then you can reach down to turn the valves.

Update - placed our deposit with couch today for a new 179 with the Pebble interior. Hoping to drive from Connecticut to Ohio the first week in December. We're pumped!

Thanks for all the info,
Geoff

None, only if you got a lower quote. We shopped this trailer endlessly. I found their price impossible to beat.
