Shore Power / Converter Problem

This topic has been mostly addressed, but I wanted to see if anyone has any tips / tricks to add before I dive in.  I have a new this spring 172.  No problems so far.
After the last trip, I plugged in to shore power to do some cleanup (with the batteries disconnected and and trickle charging in the garage.)  TV and microwave work, but none of the lights, reefer, vent fan etc are working (eg: none of the 12V appliances.)  Breakers and fuses are all OK, and I tripped them all to no avail. I have not tried the outlets, but should. 

When I hook the 12V battery back up, everything seems to work fine.  So ... everything is working when hooked up to the appropriate power source, but none of the 12V appliances will run off of shore power.

Sounds to me like something is wrong with the converter.  Is there anything else I need to check before I give up and take it back to the dealer for a look see?   I saw something about some separate fuses for the converter. Does anyone have a picture of these?

	It's a safety circuit. The converter is trying to charge your (non existent) battery, it's detected a fault, and it's completely shut down the 12v side. There's no override for this behaviour. Basically, you must have a battery connected if you want to use 12v power, even though you're technically trying to power via the converter.

	Interesting.. I never observed this behavior with my cutoff switch. I could lock out my batteries and the converter still powered the 12v side just fine. I no longer have the factory converter, (installed a Progressive Dynamics 9260) but I just went out and checked, and turning off the battery disconnect did not stop the converter from making 12v. I know for a fact the converter in the 'stream also does not act this way, It hasn't had a battery in it since we brought it home, and 12v works just fine on shore power.

	My 12 volt system works just fine on shore power without batteries in the trailer.

	As with furpod, with my battery disconnect, I can lock out my battery and use 110v from the house and lights etc still work. Good luck Gervais.

	No battery on my pod right now and no problem running the 12 volt stuff. Make sure the battery terminals aren't touching inside the battery box, that would definitely shut it down.

	Sounds like everything should run on shore power without a battery. However, I wouldn't know if that was the issue, because if I were on 110 and a charged battery, everything works (because they work independently). But no guarantee that the converter is operating. Thoughts?

	Was anything touching inside the battery box when the battery wasn't there? Did you check the main converter fuses which will blow if the battery is hooked up backwards?

	The "separate fuses" for the converter are the two large 40 amp ones on the left side of the 12v area of the box. They simply function to protect the battery and converter from a reverse hook up situation. If blown, my guess is you would have the symptoms you describe.
