we have a 2014 279 and 2006 tundra,  want to add wdh and sway..have spent a lot of hours trying to research the best set up and have a few questions    1) do i need to be concerned about a 1000/10000 wdh being too heavy?  2) any experience with Curt products (the price is right).  3)should i consider just sway control...don't want to be one of those recent horror stories and peace f mind is important.  thanks in advance

I just mentioned earlier in another thread that my recommendation now is the Reese dual-cam WDH.  It sells under several brand names, not sure if Curt is one of them.  The big difference with it, is it prevents sway from starting instead of just dampening it.  If you are going to mount something you might as well add weight distribution, at the very least it will improve your ride quality.

When I bought the E2 for my pod I confirmed with the manufacturer that going to a heavier-rated WDH is fine, just expect a harder ride if you go too high.  The pods need a 4000/400 and I went with a 6000/600 with no problems.  Not sure I would go up to a 10000/1000 but from a safety standpoint you would be fine.

We too went with the 4000/400 E2 WDH and have been completely satisfied with it. Even in 40 m.p.h. crosswinds on the highway, we have not experienced any sway at all. The ride is very good too, virtually identical to not having the Pod behind us at all (except when you press the gas pedal a bit more ).

I have used Curt hitches exclusively for the last 20 years or so.  The quality is great, as are their prices, and all have been easy to self-install on all the vehicles I owned.  Curt manufactures products for other companies that sell the products under their own trade names.  I began using their WDHs and sway controls since 1994 and never had a problem with any of them.

The products Doug mentions perhaps are better quality and perhaps have superior features, but I don't know.  However, they are expensive and I plan to stay with the Curt products.

For comparision I just checked out etrailer.com.  The Reese dual-cam WDH is about $600 all-in (including separate shank and ball).  The Pro Series sway-control WDH is about $250, the Curt sway-control WDH is about $350.  The Reese "light duty" and "SC" WDH (these are similar to the Equalizer and E2) are about $530 (including separate ball).  The Equalizer is about $450.

decided to go with the curt with added sway 600/6000...$360 at Uhaul.

The Reese Straight-line is the way to go. It makes towing for me a lot less stressful. Used it on my current Pod and my last trailer.

The Pod is light enough that you don't need WD as much, but the anti-sway is a big help. Make sure the Curt eliminates the sway.
