Calendar Event: water heater bypass Posted: 12 Oct 2014 at 12:12pm |
Have a 2015 171 model. Going to winterize soon and can't find a bypass
for the hot water heater. Instruction book with camper no use. Any help on this one?

I don't have a 171, I have a 178, but so far I'm only aware of two methods of access. 1) Inside the curb side (water heater) bay storage is an access panel with 4 screws. 2) Lift the mattress and pull the plywood panel up. There are plenty of folks in here with 171s, I'm sure...if you have the time, one will be along shortly and tell you exactly how to get to it. Good luck!

On my 171, the bypass valves are located under a plywood panel, under the mattress. There were a couple screws holding it down, but they were removed and thrown away long ago as the plywood panel stays in place without them.
Essentially, I remove the sheets/pillows/bedding from the bed, raise the blinds out of the way, lift up the mattress where its accessible in the hallway, sit down on the plywood base under the mattress, rest the mattress on my shoulders, move the plywood access panel out of the way, then turn all three bypass valves.
