thanks to all who replied, I appreciate it. I got my class 3 hitch today and now I can tow, just need to get a trailer and an r-pod. lol.

and remember, too, your manual will be generic for all half tons. Check your door jam for a sticker showing maximum towing weight, that will be vehicle specific, as everyone else pointed out.

If you use the manual don't forget a safety margin. Just because it says you can tow it, doesn't mean that you should.

What Tech said. In my (Chevy) pickup manual there are different tow weights for every different: engine transmission bed size cab size rear axle ratio 2wd vs. 4wd
Use the manual. The numbers should be based on the complete drivetrain.

I found this towing calculator on another post within the forum. I would like to give credit to whoever posted it originally, but I can't find it again. Fortunately I saved it as an important tool. It's a bit complicated, but well worth the trouble. You'll have to copy and paste the link because I still haven't figured out how to post a live link in this forum, that works. Good Luck!
