Topic: 12 VDC outlets and shore power Posted: 24 Jun 2014 at 11:07am |
I recently installed a 12 VDC outlet on my 178 to use when camping without hook ups. Are there any issues with using the 12 outlets when connected to shore power? I have some small appliances that use the 12 VDC outlet (i.e. small cooler, air pump, radio, etc.).
Thanks, Cody91 |

Nope, no problems. Ultimately the power will come from the converter when you are plugged in. This will mean it is slightly higher - maybe 13.5 volts instead of 12.5.

Assuming you installed it properly with at least #14 wire, preferably #12 or #10, no problem at all. Your converter will supply the 12 volt outlets while maintaining battery charge. Shore power will run your 120 volt appliances like A/C and microwave.

Thanks for the response guys. I used 12 gauge wire. I also you the outlet to check the voltage with a plug in meter. It works great.
