Topic: How Level? Posted: 22 Mar 2014 at 5:26pm |
Having never owned a Propane refrigerator before, I understand that it has to be level to work properly. How Level? Can the bubble on a level be close? Or does it need to be "dead nuts on"? Is it ok to use the propane side of the fridge going down the road? Or do you run it on 12 volts then?
So many questions...

The rule of thumb is if you are comfortable living in the camper, you are fine. Modern rv fridges are more tolerant of off-level conditions. I usually use the propane mode on the road to keep the large heating element load off of the DC charge line. I occasionally use the 12 volt mode. Just remember, never use 12 volt mode in-camp when you are boondocking. It will kill your battery in a few hours.

Plus or minus a couple degrees is fine..
You should never, as a new owner, ask about propane use on the road.. you may not be prepared for the $417 storm that follows.
That warning given, you can use either on the road, the "danger" of 12v is, if your TV is wired to allow 12v to run to the trailer even when the truck isn't running, is coming back to the truck and finding both batteries dead, TV and trailer, would take about 4-6 hours.. assuming both were healthy fully charged batteries..
The "danger" of propane is a belief that your entire rig, and most of the earths atmosphere will be incinerated if you stop for gas and don't turn off your fridge before pumping gas.
YMMV. Nearly EVERY camper bigger than a pod, and that's most of them, has no choice but to run on propane while traveling, and you see how many of them explode and burn down gas stations..

I heard that if you think about propane while reading this thread a astroid will hit the earth. I read it in the internet, it must be true.

I hope you were able to make sense of everything and have your question answered. Techntrek's answer is what I would go by.

As with everything that I research, I read everything & filter out what appears to be nonsense. But I very much enjoy the humor!!
I belong to the popup portal. A great group of people(like here) over there. It is amazing the opinions that one can get answering a simple question about campers/camping.
I had read someone else's question about propane fridges over there & they never really got an answer one way or the other. But there were LOTS of opinions!
Thanks all for the info & the laughs.

Notice the pod and gas station under the trees at the bottom.
