I spent last weekend camping in north Georgia in the foothills.  The guy in the office said to go up the hill, past the laundry and I would see site 17 where I was the go.  Well, it was the back side of the laundry and it wasn't marked.  It also was the back side of the site so it wasn't marked either.  So I kept going.  I came to a fork in the road and ended up taking a road that was a dead end with no turn around!  I tried to turn it around and backed into a bank.  What I couldn't see was a low boulder.  It hit the stabilizer on the passenger side and bent it up real bad.Angry

But I still had to get out of there!  I had to back up for about 50 yards, up hill and with an "S" curve to it!  Oh, and it was loose gravel.  Thank God I had 4 wheel drive.

I just ordered two 2 1/4 ton trailer screw jacks from Harbor Freight.  $30.00 + change each.  I already have them on the front.

But I did have a good time!

Ultimate test of your backing skills.  Glad to hear you made it out without calling in backup.  Pun intended.

When camping out in New Mexico (with another camper), we backed into a boulder and twisted a stabilizer.  Since we didn't want to pay for another one (they were charging a lot) we took it off and used that same boulder as an anvil and pounded that sucker back into shape.  Needless to say, we were not the popular new neighbors with all that noise.

My very first time out with our Pod I backed into a tree and poked a hole in the skin on the curved part of the back.  I sealed it with calking and had it repaired over winter.  I guess if we use them we run the risk of damage.

My stabilizer didn't come off.  I'll have both of the rear ones cut off and my new jacks welded on.

Keith-N-Dar: I agree with your statement that if we use them we run the risk of damage. My neighbors who have had trailers for years told me when I brought the new RPod home, "first thing to be damaged will be your rear stabilizers" ... They were right.
