Topic: steps Posted: 21 Apr 2013 at 9:31am |
I am going to install the risers and will probably need to have 2 steps instead of the single to make it easier for my wife to get in. Has anyone done this already? I sure could use some advice. How to do it and where to purchase the steps. Thanks to all who contribute to the forum. Some very interesting folks that are also kind and friendly.

If you have trouble finding two steps -- I'm not sure the extra step will be necessary anyway -- in the meantime you could make a little wooden platform. A two by four rectangular frame with a piece of plywood for the top. In my imagination, if you turned this over it would be just about right to hold a case of beer. You'd put it on the ground in front of the existing step. You could store it right inside the door when traveling.

Search out posts by Leaflin on this site. That member helped me with the same problem. My wife has a titanium cage around her spine, and can't step up well. Leaflin had installed dual steps and gave me all the info I needed to buy/install mine. If I can do it, anyone can.

After adding the risers I found that the single step was about equal from the ground to the step, and from the step to the pod's floor. Prior to the risers the height from the ground to the step was less than from the step to the floor. So you may not need to make any changes if she can handle the height from the step to the floor.

I'd say to be careful about adding the second step, only because of the variances you can find from campsite to campsite. The one we were in 3 weeks ago we definitely could have used a second step, but the one we had this weekend was such that the one step was only 3 inches off the ground.
And yes, we have the risers installed on ours.

thank you all. May be wise to wait and see how she handles it. The little wooden platform would be good too.

My wife has issues with her hips so I modified the step assemble to raise it up so the drop from the floor to the step is 7 3/4 inches and about 7 inches to the ground. We don't have risers and to keep it easy for her to get in and out we decided not to use them. Goose
7 inches is the standard drop for steps.

We didn't put on risers, in our case it would have made the problem worse (old dog) So what we did, and have been very happy with it, was to make the single step much more user friendly. Friends with the risers don't seem to have any trouble. I think I would try using a "box" arrangement as mentioned, easier and cheaper.
