Hi All,

We headed out Saturday morning! Made it down to North East Maryland (477 mile) the first day, we stayed at the Flying J for the night and they were their usual great hosts.
We head out this morning east on rte 40 into Delaware to Rte 13 south. Over the Chesapeake Bridge and tunnels through Norfalk and the down rte 168 to Nags Head, where we picked up rte 12 down to Rodanthe, NC and the KOA. The second legs was 350 miles. We used  our new Grand Caravan and averaged 12  miles per gallon coming out of the Vermont mountains (140 miles) , hit some wind, then it went to 15 mpg from the Massachuseyys border to Rodanthe! Very happy with that. The only bad part of the trrips were the tolls $35 plus for New Jersey, $6 for Delaware Memorial bridge, $ 16 for the Chesapeake bridge and tunnels, there were two other tolls at $4 each. Gas was $4.25 in Connecticut and as low as $  3.45 in Virginia.
The KOA is great! beautiful beach, very friendly staff, good wi fi and so far great weather. Will try out some fishing tomorrow and report back.

I didn't think that you could go through tunnels if you had a propane tank. We have avoided the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for that reason.

Hi Folks,
We went through on Sunday Sept 30th, the lady at the toll booth ($16.00 for the 3 axles) just verified that the propane was turned off. We had the one 20 lb tank on the hitch and a separate 20 lb tank for our Weber grill. We had checked with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnels website for propane limits prior to the trip.
We did have to detour around the Baltimore tunnel two years ago on our trip to Disney. They did not allow any propane.
It was a great drive over the bridge and tunnels!! Worth doing if you are ever close!!

Correct, no LPG through either Baltimore tunnel but there are two ways around that without much extra time.  The east side of the Baltimore beltway (695) is slightly faster but has a toll over the Key Bridge, or you can go around the west side of the beltway.

There are some amazing resteraunts in the area Top Dog Cafe is great, I recommend the Carribean shrimp wrap, it is the best IU have ever tasted. Aslo the Down Under Rest. truly great food and service!!
Also if you come down here you should definitely take the ferry oveer to Ocracoke Island, you can see the wild ponies, who are decendants of the spanish ponies that were first brought over also there are usually dolphins running next to the ferry on gthe tgrip over and back.
Truly a great spot to visit!!
