I owned another brand of teardrop trailer in another life and there was a specific warning in the manufacturers/owners guide indicating that the trailer should never be jacked up using the frame (near the axle) for any type of tire/wheel/axle maintenance.
Was just wondering what the "correct" location is for jacking up a wheel on the R-Pod ? Thanks in advance ... 'Slogger |

Doesn't the frame paperwork say not to use the frame and the axle paperwork says to absolutely not use the axle to do it.
Doesn't leave us many options. But I do it via the frame near the axle with a piece of 2x4 above the jack where it contacts the frame to help distribute some of the pressure. I also keep my stabilizer jacks not holding the weight of the pod once it's jacked up but again helping remove some of the pressure. Seems as smart a way to do it as I could come up with.

I think you are right, we cant jack up anywhere unless we use telekinesis. Your method sounds reasonable.

I place my jack on the bracket that is welded to the axle that bolts to the bracket that is welded to the frame. I figure that if the frame rests on the axle at this point it should be good to lift at that spot as long as the jack is not on the axle to crush or distort it out of shape. I think that makes sense. Goose
PS I do like Dougs method of mind control, that way you can raise it up high enough to walk under it and do the job in half the time and not get dirty.

Sounds like I'm doin it pretty much the way suggested. I have a 2.5 Ton floor jack. I center it on the frame near the axle and put a long piece of weather treated 2x4 between the jack and the frame. Have never had any problems with that method but I wondered if there was an "official" location.

My Lippert axle has a vertical 'flange' welded to the axle adjacent to the hub. The flange allows any lifting force to be distributed along the axle at that point. I put my jack under the flange when lifting the axle.
If I have to lift the Pod and not the axle...I also put a long 2x4 along the outer frame. With a sufficiently long piece, there does not seem to be any flexing of the Pod when I lift it. |
