I'm new to the RPod community and only have one trip to report on. But we drove from Charlotte, N.c. to the beaches at Ocean Isle and Myrtle Beach, then Savannah, Ga., down to Fla. then back to Colorado via La., Tex. and Okla. We had no problem finding campgrounds who would take us without reservations. 
The manager at the Pensacola Walmart was fine with us parking there under 24 hrs., and a truck stop manager in Okla. welcomed us to park out in his lot among the semi's. We ate at several Cracker Barrels and they seemed agreeable also. Our experience is that most people are wonderful on the road.

I am with you. I did not upgrade mine to class three because I needed a class three but because the the class II that was on it did not have a 2 inch receiver and all of the WDH s out there needed a 2 inch receiver. I went to a dealer tonight and took a look at that cross member. It is just about as heavy as the cross member on my hitch so I don't think it is going anywhere.

this_is-nascar...I appreciate the concern BUT what you're saying would only be true if I was installing a heavier receiver to accomodate a load over the vehicle rating.
 
If my jeep, as-is, is rated to pull an rpod (which it is) then increasing the load rating of the receiver is absolutely not a safety concern. Probably quite the opposite. The factory installed a receiver 'adequate' for the rated tow load of the vehicle. As long as the max tow load is not exceeded an overrated receiver should actually be 'safer'.

Gotcha....  I thought you were "super-sizing" to allow for an increased load.

When we bought our Rav we had the heavy duty tow package installed. It was approved by the Toyota dealer. It is what we did for our previous Rav when we were towing a popup trailer.

I looked it up and the class III does bolt to the same place as the class II. It is just made out of heavier Steel. I am guessing the cross member is welded in well.
