Topic: How to remove A/C shroud on top Posted: 20 Jun 2012 at 10:11am |
Well I received the new capacitor for the A/C which will make it easier to run it with our Honda 2 KW generator, I hope. Now comes the fun part. Anyone have any experience taking off the cover of the A/C unit on the top. Want to spend as little time as possible on roof as it is not reinforced. Also received the new clear cover for the shower but I think I can exchange that from the ladder. Stay tuned. Safe Travels.

Should be 4 phillips head screws: two in front and one on each side toward the back. Remove those and it will lift straight off.

Huron Sailor is correct, I had to replace mine this late spring due to hail damage, golf ball sized hail went through cover. 4 screws 2 in side 2 in back, mine were torques head, lifts straight up, plastic is very thin and light, should pose no problem. Be cafeful on the capacator, they can hold a charge and give you a nasty jolt.

Thanks for the help. Either I move the ladder to both sides or just climb on top. The execution is much easier than the purchasing. Will disconnect the power and discharge the cap and then the fun begins. Will advise. Safe Travels.

Last question. I hope. After reviewing the install instructions for the new cap. It has two different diagrams. Are the units installed on the Rpods a CSIR(Capacitor Start Inductin Run) or a PSC type? Safe Travels.

If you do climb on top, best not to kneel or stand directly on the roof of the pod, as I think it would be possible to crack the exterior skin between the roof supports. I sat on a scrap of 1/4" plywood about a foot wide and 3 feet long to help distribute the weight.

Just wondering, should the coils be cleaned? Does the area under the cover hold any dust or dirt that may build up and reduce efficiency of the unit? I have never had the cover off but the trailer has seen a number of dust storms in Arizona over the last two years. Goose

I took the top off my pup's A/C after years of use and there wasn't much debris to clean out. I do spray the coils from the outside every year (pup and now the pod).

Oh hey guys another tip on the a/c cover, if you have not run the a/c any this year there is a good chance you may have a wasp nest under it. This spring when I replaced my hail damaged cover there was a nest, luckely they flew away, if not sure, run the a/c for about 30 minutes, it will get so hot under the cover (condenser) side, they will leave town.
