Topic: Good Sam Club ... Posted: 01 Feb 2012 at 3:15pm |
Just taking an informal user poll. Got my renewall statement today from the Good Sam Club. Have been a member now for over 3 years but honestly don't think it's ever done anything for me.
How about everybody else ?
Thanks in advance ...

I had thought about it, but I think pulling a trailer is different that a $300,000.00 Motor Home. I can change a tire on the Pod, I think the worst problem would be a wheel bearing going out, that should not be a problem for most repair shops. I have thought about it, but am on the fence, what does everybody else have to say ? I am kinda like footslogger03.

================
We have AAA but not for the camper. Heard that they don't/won't send 2 tow vehicles if you break down ...so you have to leave one piece of your rig along side the road ?

I have 4 cars and a Truck and a Montana fifth wheel and the Pod and have never used it but I buy it for security.They will tow you farther than AAA. Its cheap insurance for me.

We had GS when we owned a motorhome for reasons stated by dsmiths. Now we use AAA, just because 80% of our driving is around the state or in town, and we usually only take 2 long trips in the summer. GS was just fine for us, but it was more about the towing/repair costs being so much higher on a motorhome.

The 10% off camping with Good Sam isn't really all that much. Others offer the same.

I don't belong to any. If I need help on the road with something I can't do alone, I'll grit my teeth and "pay the man". I see it as a gamble either way.

It was worth the money to have GS road assistance when I had my RV. Broke down and GS paid the $800 tow fee. Very long tow to nearest repair shop. AAA would have only paid the first $150 of the tow. GS has unlimited towing distance (to nearest shop that can handle the repair). Very rapid and polite response. However, after trading in the RV for a Pod I switched over to AAA. I figured out that the most important repair on the road for the Pod (other than tires) would be a hub. I bought a replacement hub from Lippert and bring it with on long tows. You have a double fee when using GS...the club fee and the Road Assistance fee. Good Sam Assistance will give you the most peace of mind but for a price.

tidialwave, thats a good idea to have a spare hub just in case. We have only got to use ours twice last fall and we bought late, but after we retire and start doing longer pulls I think I will get a spare hub just to be on the safe side.
