I don't have any need for a shower cap either, ha. I steal mine from hotel rooms.

Attach a big red streamer to it - like one of those "Remove before flight" tags.

+2 on the shower cap idea.....except I don't have a shower cap.I don't cook inside but, I get a lot of alarms from smoke wafting into the camper from the campfire.
I may try something like a sandwich bag.

Great idea with the shower cap. Just don't forget to remove it after eating your toast.

I usually pull the battery out, but I like the shower cap idea!

Thanks for all of the help. Yes, the furnace only caused the alarm to go off the 1st time we ran it. Dust...explains it.
As a newbe, I appreciate the forum so much. I am learning so much from everyone's experience.
a big "THANKS"

We slip a disposable shower cap over the alarm before doing any cooking inside.

As a former owner of an alarm company, we installed many residential alarm systems that included smoke detectors. The method that many smoke detectors work is to check the air for smoke particles using a visual sensor. Anything which would obscure the internal sensor, including dust, spider webs, etc. will trigger the alarm. To cut down on falsley triggering the smoke detector where cooking fumes would be a problem, is to open a window and turn on the fan. This should keep most cooking fumes from triggering the alarm. When starting a new camping season, an additional item to check is the smoke detector to make sure no spiders have crawled inside the detector. Annual vacuuming will go a long way from triggering false alarms.
