My wife isn't interested, but I'm considering taking the pod out this winter. This would be a boy's-weekend-out, or dad-and-daughters-deep-freeze. I've done backpacking trips down to -1 F so sleeping in a heated camper would be a breeze.
I would keep it winterized so that eliminates the problem of keeping the water system from freezing up. No showers or sink but I can live with that. Water would stay inside but be used outside to keep it out of the gray tank. I'm thinking I could keep a gallon of RV antifreeze next to the toilet to use to flush which would keep the black tank's contents from freezing up. Nothing like a 2 am bathroom break in 20 degree temps with a stiff breeze to wake you up, so that solves that problem.
Lots of firewood would be a must. Can you think of anything else special to take or do?

You pretty muck got it covered. I did use water to flush with but i had also dumped antifreeze down. Also some of the state parks in pa are open year round and bath rooms opened. I did a lot of off grid camping last winter and never had the tanks freeze before we got them dumped. Some people over at cabelas looked at us strange as we would dump on a sunday afternoon in snow storms. Other thing i did was block off under the camper to the ground to keep it warmer

I am from MD as well but have a problem finding a campground open. All of the state parks are closed and nothing open in Gettysburg in winter either.

And the whiskey.
electrician - I haven't figured out the where yet, I agree that most places are closed after October including our favorite, Codorus State Park near Hanover. I just took a quick look at the list of MD State Parks and I noticed Rocky Gap is open year-round (with electric). |

We went to Rocky Gap in October of last year and it was sleeting and snowing while we were setting up the camper and was below freezing each night. You will get your wish of the freezing 2am bathroom break.

Hodge-Podge - It started with blue tarps I had cut down and then pounded stakes into the ground to clip them to it but with frozen ground that got old very quickly. Now I have External Plywood that has been cut with carpet pieces that lean against the R-Pod and then straps under the camper to hold them up so the wind will not blow them down. (Trust me it will happen) |

ok French Creek State Park just below Reading, PA is opened year round. Any one want to plan to come to a January Camping Trip? How about Friday January 13th - Sunday January 15th? Cost $31.00 a night for a non pet site or $33.00 a night for a pet site (Both are electric in the C Loop)

I will be at Hunting Island State Park In South Carolina New Years Eve. It has been as cold as 15 or as high as 70. Both times were great!
