What a beautiful fall weekend to get out in the Pod to Mid Missouri for the great seasonal colors and about 50 miles of biking along the KATY. The KATY is a "rails to trails" state park that stretches about 250 miles across the state on the old Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Railroad right of way. In the central part of the state, near Columbia, MO, and east, the trail follows the Missouri river and is great.

We camped at a very small (only 8 sites with hookups) campground in Huntsdale, MO, named Katfish Katy's. What a fun place, right on the trail. It is normally VERY quiet, with mostly bike riders from the trail, or people fishing on the river. This weekend however, they had 300 (at least it seemed like 300) Boy Scouts doing an overnight. Luckily, the group camping area is quite a distance away, and on the other side of the river levee, so noise wasn't an issue, but watching the scouts was fun. Saturday night they were catapaulting flaming pumpkins (all biodegradable materials, and approved by the state DNR) into the River, and everyone was invited to join them in the good times.

Sunday afternoons at the campground, they have live music (Delta Blues) along the river, with BBQ of course.

Weather was perfect, fall colors great, and the biking fun! Even our Dalmation enjoyed all the activity and the kids! For any of you that enjoy biking, try the KATY sometime!

Flamin' pumpkin chunkin sounds fun.  A 250 mile rail-to-trail is really long!

I believe it is the longest state park in the nation! A number of friends have biked it start to finish (staying in B & B's or camping). So far, we have just done sections.
