Topic: LI, NY to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons Posted: 27 Jun 2011 at 11:20pm |
On our way from LI, NY to the Grand Tetons. Three hard days of driving and we're in Sioux Falls. My TV ( Grand Cherokee) doing a pretty good job on the flats, we did ok in the hills of PA. Today we drove all day in a stiff prairie headwind through WI, and MN. My gas milage suffered today terribly, Seems whenever I went to pass an 18 wheeler as I got even with the cab, the combination of headwinds and wind off the truck had the effect of a anchor been thrown out the back window. Weird.
Pod is comfy, DW is happy not being in our old PUP.Rapid City tomorrow!

Is your Jeep an I6 of V8? 4x4? Sounds like some fun driving so far and the wonderful start to your trip. We tow with a Grand Cherokee also and have wondered how it would handle Yellowstone. Really look forward to hearing more of your towing stories. Be safe and enjoy your awesome trip!

We know all about head winds and hills. The right lane is where we decided to stay and go for shorter miles per day last year. The trip is the adventure. Goose

Have a great time in Yellowstone! Watch out for those elk and bison, they are a lot bigger than that deer that did damage reported here a couple of weeks ago. We loved the experience, the geysers, the wildlife, the geography and that endless blue sky! It is on our list for a pod trip!,

My Cherokee is the v6 3.7L engine. Doing a pretty good job. Works hard going up the hills, but I get up them. Keeping my RPMs to 3.5- 4.0 going up hills. See what happens when we get to Montana
Spending the next couple of days in Rapid City, SD. Saw the Badlands today.
there's the link to some pics

These are great photos, please keep posting more great pics, it's so much fun to watch someone else on a long journey like that! I'll have to pick your brain a bit at the end to see how you felt the Jeep handled on the big big hills. I'm anxious to plan this same trip next year for my wife and I. Pod looks great with your Jeep by the way, love the new look of the Cherokees. Very sleek! Be safe and enjoy!

You were brave indeed in driving the Dan Ryan with your Pod. If you're coming back the same way, there are ways to avoid the Chicago traffic by taking I-39 south to I-88 east to I-294 south. The other option is to take I-94 east to I-294 south, but I don't like that option as much for it takes you by O'Hare. Either way you don't drive through the Loop, and you will keep off I-80 in most of Illinois which seems to be in a perpetual state of road construction.
