Older fridges didn't need any power, but the newer ones do. A backwards move in my opinion.

Everything worked after I put new fuses in. I was surprised that the fridge wouldn't when the battery went dead. The battery charged up easily.

Sorry to hear about the problem . Yep, the 12v stuff always runs on 12v. When hooked to commercial power, the 12v is supplied by the power supply located behind the distibution panel (where the circuit breakers and fuses are). When not hooked up, it comes from the battery.
You might want to do a simple test to make sure the power supply wasn't damaged in the reversed polarity. Unhook the battery and then plug into 120v power and make sure the 12v stuff still works. Hopefully the fuses did their job fast enough that no damage was done. Even if the power supply is broke, the 12v stuff will still work off of the battery....until it runs down.

Considering that the daytime temps were close to 80* it was cold at 58*.
