Topic: Trying to Decide . . . Posted: 24 Oct 2010 at 10:08pm |
Hi, everyone! I've been enjoying reading all the great information here, and have a couple of questions before I decide what to buy. My dealer does not have a 173 or 151, the two models I like. I'm single, but will travel with 2 dogs (border collies, so not huge).
Question 1: from the floorplan diagram for the 173, it looks like you lose one window and the pass-thru storage - is that right?
Question 2: is it possible to sleep on just the rear part of the dinette in the 151 to avoid having to put the bed together? I like that model for the open floorspace for the dogs.
Thanks in advance for your help . . . I look forward to podding!

If you are looking for something with a little more space the slide out models are great. We have a 176 for the 2 of us and it provides plenty of storage and very adequate room.

Welcome Ann. I have the 171 so I can't answer about the 173 or 151. I don't think many people have the 151 so it may be hard to get any answers about it. The extra 2 feet adds a lot of extra room which is why so many stick with the 17x line.

We have the 173 and it has 5 windows: 2 in the front/side, 2 in the back/side, and 1 across the back. We don't have passthrough storage in the back like the 171 has, but it has a deep storage cavity in front.
I'd have the 175, if I had it to do over again; JMHO. It has a slide, which would make SOOO much difference. I love having the couch. Sitting in the dinette just doesn't cut it for us. We use the dinette as our permanent bed in the 173.

I have the 173 and I use the couch for my bed. It is so easy to pull down at night to sleep. I luv my 173. I am also single and travel with my dog.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful answers. Now, one more question - the dealer says that the dome screen room has a piece that screens the bottom of the trailer. It's never shown in the showroom, though. Does it indeed keep out the bugs that would like to come from under the pod?
Not that I don't trust the salesman . . . but, he did say I could pull a pod with my "ancient" (1985) Volvo!

A 172 wouldn't be bad for you either. You take the top bunk, put a pet friendly mat/cover/cushions on the bottom bunk.
1. They have their place/bed and you have yours. 2. Since they have their own area they won't be under foot, (my dogs pretty much like the Cave feeling and go straight there (keep a big piece of vinyl on it to catch dirt till it's bed time for me, child has top bunk.). 3. Lots of storage under the bottom bunk, 10deep, 74x47 4. Storage in pass though in the back a well 5. Only has 3 windows, put plexiglass in screen door for light in mine. Good lucK Lee P.S. Also travel single with one child and 1-3 dogs.

As to the R-Dome screening on the bottom of the trailer. We used ours a few weeks ago and it worked Great from the back of the POD to the door step. But I think you will probably want to do what we are going to do which is cut it and slide the cut section from the front of the POD toward the step. Even with the lift kit it reaches the ground and gives pretty good protection. I am guessing crawling bugs might get through, but our concern was the massive swarm of mosquitoes.
