Thanks for chiming in, Tech!  All that the above does is confirm that the correct wires are in the correct place.  It doesn't assure that we have good quality power.  When I get home, I'll have some more stuff to ponder.  Right now, I'm at work being attacked by huge ape-like creatures!  LOL

I would add a Kill-A-Watt meter, to be kept plugged in, inside of the 'pod while in camp.  On the hot summer afternoons its good to keep an eye on the voltage.  It might be fine on Friday night when you check in, but then Saturday afternoon if it dips below 110 volts, you need to unplug for a while until the voltage gets up.

But.....I have been called worse!  Actually, I wanted to show you an inexpensive way to test the power pedestal at your campground of choice.  DISCLAIMER: when in doubt about any electrical matter, DO consult a qualified electrician of your choice.

As more of use take our delicate electronic stuff camping (TVs, computers, satellite receivers, etc.) electrical concerns are just about as important as at home.  We need to know if the thingy that we are plugging in to is in good operating condition.  While you could take a multi-meter and test, I have found this way to accomplish the task and it's easy.  Things like surge protectors won't work properly if we have a "bad" pedestal.  Bad things can happen to your Pod if you have a really bad pedestal.

First, we need to obtain 2 things; the first one, I'll call the "yellow thing" and the other, the "black thing".

Here is a view of the other ends of the "things"

As you can see, my photographic skills aren't quite "on par" with some of our members!

Now comes the tricky part.....we have to hook them together!

There you have it - David's cheap down & dirty pedestal tester thing!  The "black thing" is a 30amp Male to 15amp female and can be purchased at your favorite RV store; like Walmart.  The "yellow thing" is a simple tester, which can be purchased at your favorite home improvement store (do you prefer blue or orange?).  Anyway, you'll have about $10-15 invested in the whole thing and it will fit in the palm of your hand.  The tester is fairly self explanatory.  If you see anything other than "correct", this may be cause for concern.  "Why?": you ask.  We will talk about that next time.
