I think I probably would have bought the dome, but I have a screen room I have used for some time.
But having an awning would keep the Pod cooler.

The factory awning gets very hot in the sun even with all walls open, it needs a radiant barrier in the roof.  EZ-Ups have a radiant barrier built into the roof and are much cooler in the sun.  Most trips we only use them (we have 2).  The only time we set it up is if they are calling for lots of rain in the evening since it can be closed up, but I've done that with my EZ-ups with some spring clamps and tarps so no real advantage to the dome.  I wouldn't have bought the dome knowing what I know now.

We also use EZ-Ups as alot of times the places we are camping do not have the room for the dome.  I'm also looking into a awning to make or buy for a quick up and some shade.  We do dry camp at a girl scout camp as we are working so we do not spend much time sitting out under the dome.

I was in Camping Word online today and found what I am going to try for shade.

It is a Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade, 10'x10', 90" center.
In the review it said if you hac 2 more poles you could use it for awning on a camper.  Have ordered one, will see what the poles look like and how that would be done. If not, just having it NEAR the door when stepping out just might work.

Looks nice wonder if you could sew a rope onto it to slide it up the track.  From looking at it it might work.

Might work, will look at it and see if I can do that. Will have to be a little rope, like the white ones maybe.

Got the 2 pole Sun Shade today. Says I need another person to help put it upTongue
If it cools off a bit I may tackle it myself. This learning curve is getting bigger!

You can actually buy the rope stuff prefabbed and ready to sew on. One source is SailRite (www.sailrite.com).  Do a quick search for "awning rope" once you get to the site.

Similar stuff is used on the leading edge of roller furling sails, but like most stuff on a sailboat, it has a goofy name. There it's called "bolt rope." Another search option for you.

Put the 2 pole Sun Shade up yesterday. Once I figured out how to get it taunt, it could be done by one person.
Thank you for the information on where to look for rope. I will hold on to that when I get some other things done
If anyone else get the SunShade and makes it into an awning, please let us know how.LOL

I went out with the Tape Measure last night and did some rough checking.  10' would be too wide for the R-Pod as the Door on my 171 would hit it and not open all the way (that is what I do not like about the R-Dome).  I'm going to get a cheap blue tarp and start playing much to my Wife's dismay on trying to find the right width that will give me the maximum amount of coverage.  She keeps reminding me we have easy ups and also the R-Dome to use BUT I want another mod Big smile
