Good choice, we went with a 10" and I hate putting sheets on it. Lesson learned.

We purchased the Dreamfoam Bedding Chill 6" Gel Memory Foam Mattress. It costs more than the Zinus, but it is made in the USA. We had purchased a Zinus 6" model and it never would expand to the full height, even after more than a week. The Zinus is made in China and it probably had been warehoused too long. I just checked the price for the Dreamfoam though and it now sells for $349, which is about twice what we paid at the time.

I've bought a couple of Zinus foam mattresses for beds at home too, never had a problem with inadequate expansion.  Keeping the temp warm when you open and are expanding it and staying off of it for several days helps a lot with expansion and gets any stinky outgassing over with. I wouldn't want to be in a tight enclosure like an rpod with one that hadn't been allowed to air out first  I agree that they can't be left for very long compressed. Be prepared to request a replacement if you do get unlucky and you get one that doesn't expand, and don't let them tell you just to wait longer, I've never seen one not reach more or less full height in 2-3 days.

We left our mattress in an upstairs bedroom, the warmest part of the house, to expand and air out (pretty much all compressed foam mattresses have some odor) for a month while we waited for our trailer to arrive.  Then we put a mattress cover on it <https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078QGCR1V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1> and put it into the trailer where it sat until our first trip last January.  We've had no problems with expansion or odor.

Like I said, I think I got one that had just been in the warehouse too long and had reached the point where the expansion was just not going to happen, no matter how long I left it. As it was, I ordered it in January of last year. When it did not expand after several days, I contacted Amazon and got a refund. That is when I ordered the Dreamfoam, which expanded in a matter of minutes since it had only been compressed just before being shipped. Even after some time, the Zinus never expanded beyond its initial expansion which was closer to 4-5 inches instead of 6 and one of the corners never expanded beyond 2". I think it all depends on how long it has sat compressed. The longer it sits, the more likely it is to not expand properly. The Dreamfoam box specifically stated to not let it sit compressed, but to unpack it and let it expand as soon as possible to avoid the situation I encountered with the Zinus mattress.

In most cases, the mattress will likely not have sat so long in shipment/storage and will expand. I just happened to have gotten a lemon.

Just curious - did you have to return the mattress?  Wondering about the logistics.

Do you just drag it into Kohl's and slap it onto the counter as an Amazon return???  Star

No, I was instructed to dispose of it, which I did.

We have an 8" Zinus deluxe from Amazon and it's still brutal to get the sheets on...my wife won't even do it any more....it certainly takes some maneuvering on our 177.

6" would have also been good enough I think as well....

We just use flat sheets now (not fitted) and I just jam them down the sides and don't try tuck around the bottom....
