Hi---can anyone tell me the size socket I need to remove the water heater plug in my 177--I think it's 1 and one eighth but I just want to make sure it's not metric--thanks

Just don't forget to depressurize the water tank - turn on a faucet with the pump off until it quits dripping.  I forgot once and it blew the anode rod and the socket wrench about 15 feet.  Rather impressive.   And then I needed to go get some dry clothing.

Depressurization is a little faster if you slowly open the pressure relief valve on the water heater. I've also found this to be a good thing to do when filling the hot water tank.

Someone I know very well had this happen to him also. Doubt it'll happen to me twice!

A 27mm metric should work pretty well too.

I have gotten by with an adjustable wrench and a pair of vice grips.  Works for me...
