We just traded or 2015 178 in for a 2018 180, our dealer did not want to install the sway control from our 178 saying that it would void the warrenty, that we did not need it because these were for smaller units like pop-ups. any ideals, will it really void warrenty?. I'm really not quite sure I want to tow without it.

I've never heard that adding a sway bar would void a Pod warranty.  I suppose one could argue about drilling or welding on the frame....  It might be a good time to look at something like a Fastway E2 WDH with integrated sway control (that let's you back up without undoing anything.

+1 Tars, drilling the frame is the issue with some folks.

Did your dealer offer to sell you a new WDH?

At cost, of course. Approve

Our dealer was saying that drilling would void the warranty but did not offer to sell us any other setup. we towed or 178 for 3 years with our Ranger with no problems. what do others think drill or not? everything I have read said you use the sway control. thanks for the replys all.

I personally would not want to drill in that part of the frame. The zone between the hitch and the body is probably the highest stressed part of the frame. All the WDH setups that I have seen clamp onto the outside of the frame, and I think there is good reasoning behind that.

I'm with Tars Tarkas, I too have never heard of any WDH voiding the warranty nor do I know of any that you have to drill or weld on the trailer frame but there maybe some? If you have any doubt about your warranty contact the Forest River Rpod warranty representative by email phone and ask them directly. IMHO your dealer was feeding you a line of bull hockey to put it politely.

The E2 6K unit needs no holes in the frame of the trailer.  All is clamp on.  You just have to be sure to torque the nuts to their specs.  Dealers may or may not check the torque with their installation.  Best to ask, indeed, put it in writing on the repair or sales order.

That is probably overkill for an R-pod. Most everyone that I know uses the 600/6000 E2 unit. I don't know what the effects would be with a "too heavy" unit except that it might be difficult to get it dialed in.
