I bought my Pod used so I never had a warranty, but I'm pretty sure the issue is that for some weight distributing hitches and/or sway bars, one has to drill or weld the frame of the trailer.  I can believe that could be the warranty issue and it's probably what was meant.

The Equilizer WDH doesn't require drilling or welding, thereby getting around the issue.  The Fastway I have is very similar.  They both provide very good sway control in addition to weight distribution.

Hi there, I'm new to the forum and Rpods but have had trailers in the past. I just purchased a 180 also out here in the Portland OR area and the dealer said I SHOULD have sway bars set up as part of my hitch because of the high winds we sometimes get in the Columbia Gorge for example but also on I5 freeway. Did the dealer mean because they were old or not the right kind they could void the warranty? That's the only thing I can think of that might make sense...

I tow with an Equalizer hitch that clamps on. 600 lb bars.   No warranty issues can be raised since no frame drilling. No sway and distributes weight nicely.

My understanding was that being "over distributed" was just as bad as being "under distributed". I talked to etrailer.com and Fastway and they both said the 600 was the right one for the R-pod, the 1000 is too much.

That is probably overkill for an R-pod. Most everyone that I know uses the 600/6000 E2 unit. I don't know what the effects would be with a "too heavy" unit except that it might be difficult to get it dialed in.

The E2 6K unit needs no holes in the frame of the trailer.  All is clamp on.  You just have to be sure to torque the nuts to their specs.  Dealers may or may not check the torque with their installation.  Best to ask, indeed, put it in writing on the repair or sales order.

I'm with Tars Tarkas, I too have never heard of any WDH voiding the warranty nor do I know of any that you have to drill or weld on the trailer frame but there maybe some? If you have any doubt about your warranty contact the Forest River Rpod warranty representative by email phone and ask them directly. IMHO your dealer was feeding you a line of bull hockey to put it politely.

I personally would not want to drill in that part of the frame. The zone between the hitch and the body is probably the highest stressed part of the frame. All the WDH setups that I have seen clamp onto the outside of the frame, and I think there is good reasoning behind that.
