I just replaced my single group 31, 105 amp hour, 12 Volt battery with a US Battery US-12XC2. It’s a group GC12 rated at 155 amp hours, 12 volt deep cycle golf cart battery. It weighs 86 pounds and so my wife had to help me lift it into place, the old battery weighted 59 lbs. The footprint of the battery fits inside my Group 31 battery box other than it sticks up about 1 ¼” higher. I had some 1/8” high density foam I used to make an extension inside the battery box to fill in the space. I picked up the battery locally for $195. I had considered using two 6 volt GC2 from Costco, but then I would also have to get a new battery box.

Yamaha came out with the 48 volt system in their carts a number of years ago.  However, do you not get more amp hours with the two  6 volt batteries tied together over the single 12 volt?  Yet the other thing to definitely consider is tongue weight as the pair of 6 volts would weigh considerably more than the single 12 volt.

It's not the amp-hours, it's the watt-hours. 155 AH at 12 volts gets you 1860 watt hours. 200 AH at 6 volts gets you 1200 watt-hours.

So you're right that two of those 6V GC batteries will get you 2400 watt-hours in twice the space.

But if you're willing to give up the space, go for the two 12V GC batteries and cruise with 3720 watt-hours.

The dual 6V batteries do have the advantage of being much more easily lifted. I can't imaging trying to lift an 85-pound battery, but you probably wouldn't have any problems with people stealing it.

I've kind of gotten used to hoisting 130 lb batteries at some of our solar sites. The biggest ones we use happen to be 6V, but they're still 130 lbs.
