Well, We ended up taking our Rpod to South Carolina for its maiden voyage.  It turns out it was also the first time in a long time that Florence, SC got snow.  So, the first time setting up the Rpod for real ended up being in the snow.  After it took a couple of tries of getting to a correct spot, I ended up using a normal 15 amp plug to plug in, since I did not need the air conditioner.

Having a drill helped a lot with raising and lowering the stabilizers.

I am very glad that we did some test runs at home, because in 24 degree weather we were able to keep the Rpod warm, even with the tent end down.  To keep warm, we used a $30 Sunbeam heater we got from walmart.  We had that setting higher then the furnace and the the furnace never had to come on in the middle of the night.  We also insulated the tent end with Reflectix and used a Heated Mattress Pad on the air mattress.

We ended up cooking breakfast in the Rpod and set off the Smoke Alarm(twice).  If you are cooking anything that will put off smoke, make sure to have the door open and the bathroom vent running.  I would also have a little fan pointing at the smoke detector.  The smoke detector seems to be VERY sensitive.

It was great being able to wake up on site and definitely look forward to using it again.

Only got one picture over the weekend and that was of the Rpod in the snow.

Glad you enjoyed your first trip out.  Others have reported that the smoke detector is sensitive, too.  Most people don't break in their camper in 24 degree weather - in the snow!  Big smile

Good stuff on getting yor Pod out Smile.  I, too, found out the hard way about the smoke detector - touchy, touchy!  I sat an unfamiliar cup (of coffee) in the microwave to warm it up which sparked.  Of couse I immediately turned it off but, even just a faint whisper of smoke was enough.  I used the stove top just once (because it was pouring rain outside) to boil some water and that set it off!

I have used ours in the snow 2 times already and plan to use it this weekend again in the snow.  Problem will be this weekend we will have no hook ups and friends generators are being used so I'm taking the zero degree sleeping bags with.  We are lucky as we have the 171 with no slides or pop out beds to lose any heat we may make.  But I may have looked harder at the pop out beds as I really do missing the years of the pop up and sleep with a screen around me.   I don't miss the time to setup and knock down one or putting away a wet camper.

I did not have much of a choice on the weather.  I was going to use it no matter what.  I also was not expecting 24 degrees and 3-5 inches of Snow in South Carolina.

The Pop out bed only took about 10-15 minutes to take out by myself.  would be quicker if someone else was helping me.

I just finished clearing mine out of the snow bank from the last 2 storms (4' for snow plus drift then melted some with Plow pile in front) to find out that i have to dig out more in front of the driveway on the other side of the alley just so I can hook up and swing out early in the Morning with it.  Headed out to help out cleaning up a camp that got pretty messed up this winter.  Fun 3 nights of no hook ups.  If I ever get it out!
