I'm not real familiar with Santa Barbara, but here is a link to camping in Ventura County, including Carpinteria State Beach, which I believe is in Santa Barbara County. Chttp://www.ventura.org/visitors/campgroundsounty.

It sounds like you know the area really well! But just wanted to be sure you know about the official (California State Parks) website. I checked it this morning and it includes info about closures for some sections of the cg and other reservations-related info. The website for you or anyone else who needs it is http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=599

We went to Big Sur on the 18th-21st. It was great as I remember -- but chilly. It was in good shape.

We were out there 2 weeks ago. At the time US 101 was closed around Ventura due to fires and mud slides. We did not hear about effects on local parks.

I remember, growing up in SoCal, how much we loved camping at Carpentaria State Park. But, haven't been there in years.

Keep checking conditions as fires and rains have left a lot of damage.

We were down at Montana de Oro about 80-90 miles north of there earlier this year. Relatively small, but neat little campground there. Right next to Moro Bay and San Luis Obispo. The park is great too.
