Blessed with 7+ inches of snow here this week. Wait, this is the SOUTH and were not suppose to get that four letter word from the sky because here the world shuts down! No school, business close, heck my newspaper or mail didn't even come. Hmmm .... no mail maybe that's a benefit? Oh well our little winter hibernation soon ended because the high the day after was near 50. Go global warming! LOL

Yeah, probably the old 8" rounds, amazing, you could see them leave the artillery piece. Great memories.

Driven by (through?) Camp Ripley hundreds of times going between Brainerd & Minneapolis. We could hear the "big guns" on the Ripley firing range from the north end of Gull Lake (at least 50 miles north of Camp Ripley IIRC). We would listen and try to discern whether it was Ripley or thunder. Wasn't always clear.

There were a couple of big lakes that they would plow a road across in winter for a shortcut. Everyone drove on that. Not too big a deal when the ice is > 3' thick.

Once went to an ice race on Gull Lake (north of Brainerd MN) where there were a couple hundred racers, all their support vehicles, plus 10,000 spectators (and their vehicles) all parked on the ice. They hold an annual ice fishing contest there now that is almost as big.

I think the deep freeze is about over here in lower West Michigan! 7 this morning, tomorrow up into the low 30's, 40's by Wednesday and Thursday. Been here over 30 years and it was one serious deep freeze the past two weeks. Just in time to fly south with the Pod.

Looks a little nippy for kayaking!!! We have people driving trucks and cars on the ponds and lakes up here. I will bring my snow machine on the ice but not the van or truck.
Our high today is going to be -10 and back down to -20 tonight. Yuk!!

This was the Delaware river two days ago (my kayak launch and favorite fishing spot) and it's getting more frozen! If it was like this 241 years ago we would probably all be speaking British!! Star

The coastline of mass has ice. Gotta be pretty freakin cold to freeze the ocean. Our forecast is for -25 wind chills for the next day or so. A high of about 3 i think they said. On a positive note, I'm working on booking a few sites for the fourth of july week

I went ice fishing other other day and there was 14" of ice when usually there is 5-7 inches at this time of the year.
Sounds like that would be a great place to fish!!
