I'm with you, yizit. I swore off video games back when Pac Man and the like were popular. I had one of those "eureka" moments, while staring at the "game over" screen, and thought "this is stupid!" These machines are designed solely to relieve me of my money - in exchange for a few moments of "brain pudding". I haven't played one in the 20-30 years since.
Last week, I was wandering through one of the large retailers (whos name I won't mention - but it rhymes with - "Walmart"). I rounded a corner and came face to face with a mountain of boxes called "Fiddle Hero" - (the name I have changed to avoid "bad" letters from lawyer type persons). A gal came up behind me and informed me that those were really fun...she had played one for hours last night, and was completely exhasted today. So, I said, I can spend this sum of money, get a toy "fiddle", and spend hours exhausting myself pretending to play the toy "fiddle"? For the sake of brevity, let's just say I don't think she was overly impressed with my interpritation of the whole matter. Where's the logic?
It makes much more sense to spend thousands on camping stuff and drive hundreds of miles to get wet/muddy/cold, bit or stung by weird bugs that look like they came from another planet and eat lumps of charcoal - that were once fine cuts of meat (at least until I decided to apply my questionable cooking "skills"). Some people just don't know how to have a good time.
Hope to see you "out there"

The last time I played Pac Man it was for over 5 hrs straight. I was a wreck and never played it again after that. I won't play any game that has any type of a time requirement or speed. Talk about stress!!! It made me so irritable and uptight that I couldn't stand being around me.

Pac Man was a lot of fun, but, IMHO "Asteroids" and "Space Invaders" were the best. A fella could save the universe for only 25 cents! As I have matured though, I'm not sure it''s worth that much money.
Hope to see you "out there"

Funny ending. David, the first hard drive I bought held 10 mb, it was used, and it still cost me $100 (in 80's dollars). I was excited to buy a 300 baud modem for that same computer, and even more excited when I later bought a blazing fast 1200 baud modem. Who woulda thunk that the BBSs of those days would morph into.... this. |
