Hi Everyone.
We brought our 175 home from OKC on Dec. 28th. The weather immediately turned frigid after we got it home, so we've only been able to go out into the backyard about 3 times and turn the furnace on and sit in and admire it. Can't wait til it warms up so we can start outfitting it. My hubby is concerned about using a Honda EU2000 generator. Will this be powerful enough to run the microwave/convection, furnace or a/c when we are boondocking on vacation? Not all at once of course, but it would be nice to use it other than to just charge the battery. We really don't want to haul the companion generator to be able to use it. This is all new to us both, so any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks Pam & Dan Okiepoders

Welcome to the group! If I remember right that generator will run what you want but only 1 at a time. So if you use the microwave/convection oven, shut off the AC until your done cooking. That type of thing.

Thanks Terry
That's kind of what we thought, but Dan wanted to have some reaffirmation on that. He used to have an old motor home that was a source of nightmares for him. He had worried about the generator thing among other things every since we ordered our 175. This forum has been very helpful Pam

Welcome to the forum. We used the Honda 2000 all last summer while parked on our land. We had no problems running anything. We even ran the A/C with no problems....of coarse without anything else running. We didn't try tho either. We just turned off the A/C to use the other items.

Thanks Darlene & Jim
That's what we thought. Interestingly enough we bought it thinking we could take it out to our land in the country on weekends too.

The real test will be up in the mountains, or on a very hot day. High temperature or high altitude reduces the max output. There is a set derating based on every 1000 feet over sea level, or degrees over some temperature varies by model. My home generator looses 3.5% every 1000 feet plus 1 percent every 10 degrees above 60F. Plus with natural fluctuations in production some A/C units will be fine, while identical models may not. I've seen this discussed on other RV forums before, where someone says X model works fine with Y model, then someone else will have problems. Welcome! |
