I almost purchased that size tire, but then I remembered I'd have to get a new spare tire also because running that size tire with a larger sized spare tire may cause harm.

This post explains what I ended up with:

On a non-drive axle, as a temporary spare/situation, no worries at all, it's a minuscule difference in size.

There is some controversy in the tire world about that.

MOST recommend 5 years, some 6 and a few, with no evidence as to why think 7 is OK.

We did ours at 5 1/2 or so. If you loose a tire at speed, you loose a fender too.. and sometimes more. The date code of manufacture is on the side of your tires.

The difference in mpg will be unmeasurable.  Keep them until they age out.

I don't see any issue, you will lose 10mm (.4 inch) in width, and about 2mm in ride height.

I have a 2012 RP177 that I purchased last spring.  It is the Hood River edition with the gnarly off road tires.  These tires seem a bit senseless to me as there is really no need for such a tire on a travel trailer, and I would assume that the rolling resistance is greater, theoretically detracting from my mpg.  So....I'm thinking about replacing them with a good trailer tire.   The size of these tires is 235/75-15, which is not a size available trailer tires.  The closest size is 225/75-15 which is a bit smaller.  Has anybody else on this forum made this switch?  Is the size close enough not to be a big deal....?

  Thanks in advance....

JC
