Also, were you running Eco mode? If you run the generator flat out all the time, you'll burn through gas a lot more quickly. I would guess that two parallel-connected Honda 2000s would use less gas over a period of time on Eco mode than a single 2000 with Eco mode off, given a typical cycling load.

I just picked up my 179 a week and a half ago. I am going on my first trip this weekend but, I ran my 179 on the driveway with A/C blazing and any power I wanted to use with my Honda 3000is. I found that after everything was up and running that I could switch to the low power setting. I love the 3000is but honestly it is heavy to tote. The generator is 135 pounds dry. I use a fold-up furniture dolly to move it around.

This is exactly the reason we opted for a dual parallel EU2000i setup. It's much easier to move two 2000s than one 3000.

And that's why I love my Yamaha 2400iSHC.  It will power the AC just fine, and at 75 pounds, it's movable.  I didn't want to go with dual 2k units as this would cost about $2,100 for Honda or Yamaha.

Looking back, though, I would strongly consider dual 2k Champion inverter generators for about $1,100 total.  I've heard a lot of good things about them.

I fully understand going lighter on the generator but, mine was given to me with 30 hours.....I am determined to make it work at that price.

Any idea if the noise of the Yamaha 2400 is much louder than a Honda 2000?

The Honda EU3000is is, reportedly, the most quiet generator available on the market of any type or size.  At idle, it's decibel rating is 49, which is less than half the volume of a normal conversation at 60 decibels.  IMHO, that is about the only advantage of going with that generator as opposed to dual 2 kW models.  The sound level will be significantly higher with the dual approach, but if you don't need your AC, you can power just one of them and save on fuel, plus they are much more mobile.

It is slightly louder, but not by much, especially at low loads.  When you're running the AC and the Yamaha is running full bore, it's noticeably louder, but this is to be expected.

To put it in perspective, at low loads, my Yamaha cannot be heard at all more than about 100 ft. away if we're in a campground with bushes and shrubbery around.

It's funny how quickly you become accustomed to how different brands of generators sound.  When I was walking through Sugar Pine State Park's campground in Lake Tahoe last month, I heard an inverter generator running and instantly knew that it wasn't a Honda or Yamaha.  Sure enough, it was a Champion 2 kW.  Its sound level was slightly higher than with the top brands, but I was very impressed, especially considering that it's half the price.
