Topic: De-winterizing checklist Posted: 02 May 2011 at 3:52pm |
Will the de-winterizing anti-freeze hurt to be dumped in the gravel of my driveway?
My husband is looking for the step by step method to get the Pod ready for use once again.
We have stored the battery and propane tank , that much we can do.

Should be ok, it is a food-grade chemical which won't hurt wildlife if they drink it.

I have another question on dumping the anti-freeze. RV, of course.
Can it be dumped on the ground at my house? I ask, because I have heard it is non-toxic. But I can not find a way to ask Goggle and get the answer I am seeking.
Thanks

Shouldn't hurt your grass, if that is what you are asking.

According to my sources, if the antifreeze is propylene glycol (not the ethylene glycol that is used in automotives), it is much less likely to be attractive and toxic to animals. I would not test this theory by feeding it to anyone but it should be less toxic. Personally, I would not let the animals drink the water that I would drain out but once the area is dry, it should be acceptable to allow access to it.

Thanks for that clarification! I had automotive antifreeze in my brain.

Thank you. Having heard the PINK anti-freeze that should be used was not toxic, but never hurts to check and check again

Grass?? What is grass? Just kidding. I live up agains't the Park and have so much shade there is only moss. But that is to be thought of also. I was just thinking of the not harming the ground, gravel in my case.

Yeah, all I can grow is moss, too. Lots of shade since I'm in the woods. Just to be absolutely clear, the pink RV antifreeze is a food-grade additive used in the food and cosmetic industries, no worries about putting it on the ground.
The yellow or pink automotive antifreeze (lots of thanks to the idiot that made the newer stuff pink, too) is sweet to the taste so it attracts animals and it will kill them through liver failure.
