Topic: Enter pod while hooked to vehicle? Posted: 10 Sep 2016 at 2:28pm |
Hi everyone. Complete newbie here! We've ordered our pod but don't expect to pick it up until January. We're planning to take a long trip next spring, traveling with two toddlers. I was wondering... if we're pulling the pod and want to stop for lunch, is it okay to enter the pod to access/prepare food while it's still attached to the tow vehicle? Or should we only enter if it's completely detached, with wheel chocks and stabilizer jacks in place? We're trying to figure out if it's best to pack a cooler for the car-trip portion and keep it in the car, if we'd have the option to stop and prepare meals. Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can use your Pod while still attached to your TV. We routinely pull into a parking lot or rest stop, extend the slide-out of our 179, turn on the radio and enjoy a nice quiet meal. Yes the Pod is a little jiggly without the stabs down, but it is no big deal.

Absolutely OK to enter and use the Pod while attached. Just be sure the TV brakes are set and the Pod's not going anywhere. We often make overnight stops without disconnecting, setting the stabilizers, or hooking anything up. Just open the door and climb in.

I agree with all of the above. In fact, it is one of the nicer things about RVing. I'll stop at a rest stop, fix a sandwich, grab a soda pop, give my dog a drink of water, etc. before continuing on. Use the same area as the big trucks....big parking spaces and easy in/out.

+2, we've slept many nights in truck stops, Wal-Marts and rest stops like that. I will lower the tongue jack for some stability but that is it.

We have taken showers in a rest area. When you have been traveling for a long time and it is hot a shower is very refreshing. Sometimes if we will be staying a while at a rest area I will lower the tongue jack, just need to remember to raise it when you start traveling again. I agree with all of the above and having a camper while traveling is a big advantage.

I had my artist daughter make a cutesy cardboard sign that says "Jack". I leave it on my seat when the jack is down so I don't forget.
