Topic: New R-Pod 180 Owner in Tennessee Posted: 15 Nov 2015 at 12:06pm |
Hello...new owner and new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself.
After about 5 hours over two days at the dealership trying to decide which Pod, we went with the 180. It's just my wife and I with 2 small dogs. The final decision (wife's) came down to having the permanent queen bed and full bath. We obviously gave up the larger dinette, but that didn't seem too bad with only two of us.
We just took it out on a one-nighter to learn the set up process. We're new to trailer camping and moving up from years of tents and primitive camping. All went really well, no issues. Pulling with a 2011 F-150 Fx4. 5.0 V8. No problems there either.
We're really excited to get out on some trips in the very near future and I also look forward to learning from everyone on the forum! _______________________ Editing this post to let you know I'm in Middle Tennessee and a lot of our initial camping will likely be within a couple hundred miles of there if anyone wants to weigh-in on good campground options.

That floor plan is so smart! Enjoy your new toy. Soon the word "tent" will seem antiquated to you.

I was there 90-92, then changed my major. Sounds like we were there at the same time.

Welcome from a fellow Middle Tennessean. We spend a lot of time in the Smokies with the pod, in GSMNP campgrounds (no hookups). Usually Smokemont on the NC side. We're headed back in a few weeks. We have a small generator for keeping the battery topped off. Of course it can't be used at night, but that's almost never been a problem. (It came close to being an issue once when the temps got into the low 20s.) But we have been able to use the generator all night a time or two when we were the only ones in the campground. We seem to like cold weather camping more than most people. The pod stays nice & toasty with it's furnace, a Mr. Buddy heater, or, if you have power a little 1500 watt electric heater.
This forum is a great place for help -- and let me know if there's anything I can help with locally.

Thanks for the note TT. Never been to Smokemont, but we've spent a lot of time in Elkmont on the TN side in GSMNP...mostly in tents. Looking forward to taking the Pod there as soon as possible. No hookups at Elkmont either. I haven't bought a generator yet, so an extended stay there will probably force me to get one. - S

I've spent many a night in a tent at Elkmont too, and in the cabins. Even a night or two at the Wonderland. I have ties to Elkmont that go way back; even dear friends in the graveyard there. But lately they close the Elkmont campground in winter and it seems like Elkmont is about the most likely campground to get rowdy. For what it's worth, the NC and TN sides of the park are almost like night and day. We like the relative peace on the south side. Pulling a trailer over the Gap is not the best aspect of Smokemont though, but not too bad. You have the truck for it!
