I have been following this forum for over a year now and am finally ready to purchase a 178. This is my first rv purchase so any advice would be appreciated.  I am purchasing from Couchs as they seem to have the best prices, even with the shipping.

Thoughts on...extended warranty?  Questions I should ask?

I look forward to joining the tribe....

Welcome to the group!! Congrats on your 178! My advise would be to have the tech give you a complete walk thru and have him demonstrate everything from the heater to the fridge etc. and play with the switches a bit while he is there to answer questions.

The 2nd year Forest River warranty isn't a horrible option, but don't grab anything extra offered from the dealer.

Welcome.  I agree on the warranty - go for the one FR offers, not the expensive ones the dealers offer.  Since it sounds like yours is being delivered, make sure you check out all the systems soon after delivery.

Yes, I am very concerned with purchasing it so far away. No one to go through it for me and also any warranty issues. I am looking into closer dealerships but frankly, there isn't much here in South Florida. Looks like the closest one is on the west coast, about 1.5 hours.

If you're buying from Couch's, are they delivering it or are you driving up to Ohio to pick it up? If the latter, I'd sure suggest spending your first night as owner overnighting in their lot.  They have water & electricity.  That way, you can operate everything to be sure there are no problems.  If you find anything, you'll have their techs right there the next morning.

All in all, we had a good experience with Couch's.  Hope yours goes well, too.  Welcome to our bunch, & please let us know how everything turns out.

Congrats on your new 178! We have had a blast with ours.

At the end of our first year, we did purchase the Protective XtraRide platinum plan.

I usually don't buy extended warranties, but this seemed like a reasonable purchase and is easily transferrable.

For what it is worth, we bought our 178 from Lazy Days in Seffner (near Tampa).  Excellent service, and they did their best to match Couch's price.  Obviously they could not compete with Couch's destination charge but we ended up with all the options except for the bike rack, so we were more than happy with Lazy Days' price.  Best of all, they gave us a great trade-in allowance on our 2010 173.  Couch's did not want to bother with a trade-in.
