Topic: Cheyenne Camping Center Posted: 29 Sep 2014 at 6:30pm |
I just purchased an R-178 from http://www.cheyennecampingcenter.com/ and so far, couldn't be happier. The unit was well equipped and included the R-dome option, all at a very good price. So good, I drove from San Antonio to Iowa to buy it. When I arrived, a day earlier than expected, the R-pod had all ready been prepped and all systems in all modes were checked out. I was immediately escorted to the Pod for a detailed 360 walk through all while my truck was having a complete tow package installed. After the walk through I received all the documentation necessary to title and register here in Texas, and they had already placed a temp trip permit on the Pod. Soon after my truck was pulled around the front with the Pod in tow where the service tech then gave me a overview of the brake controller and WDH. The system had already been adjusted and was ready to roll. A bottle of Cooks Champagne and a rose topped of the deal and I was on my way. This place was like the NASCAR of RV lots. I was in and out of there in about 2.5 hours. Loved it. A no non-sense deal. They didn't try to sell me anything else, they simply offered a great RV at a great price and that's it. There really is NO CATCH. My expectations of customer service are very high and I generally don't give out referrals, but in this case I truly don't have a problem here. These people know what the customer wants and so they give it to them. Good luck! I really hope your buying experience was as good as mine, where ever you go.

I too bought my 178 from Cheyenne and drove the 1600 miles round trip from Denver. Same experience with the purchase and delivery as you. However, my local RPod dealer is refusing to do any work on it, warranty or no warranty. Does anyone have a suggestion?

That is the risk one takes going out of market...not much you can do about it, IMO. Even if FR forced them to work on it would you really want them to?

I asked this question before I started driving and this was the answer from the Cheyenne Camping Center Dealer:
"The Forest River warranty is valid at any of the approximately 2400 Forest River dealers in North America.
In addition, many of the major components (AC, Furnace, etc) have their own warranties and their own dealer networks.
We do encourage you to call our service department first, most problems can be solved by advising you of the reset procedure or by sending you a replacement part if needed."
Work the problem back through Cheyenne, ask them to help find service. I have a small problem they are helping with on the refrigerator door.
If I have other issues I expect Cheyenne to stand behind these words, I don't have any reason to believe they won't back this up.
I'm thinking outside the POD, I don't need an R-POD Dealer to do my warranty work, a certified tech. at anyone one of the 2,400 Forest River Dealers will do. I believe my closest is Camping World about 20 miles away and they don't sell R-PODS.
As far as your local R-POD dealer, well there is a reason you didn't buy there to begin with so it's probably not a bad idea to steer clear of them anyway.
Good luck Sir,

Outstanding advice and Cheyenne is working with me and hopefully will find a local RV dealer, not Ketelsens, to assist me. And yes, do you suppose I will go to Ketelsens for my next upgrade or refer my friends? Don't think so! Meanwhile my wife and I have taken our " maiden voyage" last week with our new 178 and we are happy rpodders!

My 178 is sitting in the driveway. I have been going through all of the systems, making sure they work and making sure I know how to use them. So far so good. Our maiden voyage is in two weeks...can't wait. Happy Camping!

FYI...My 5 days on the road, here was my experience:
Didn't think I would use the wet bath, but got use to a quick shower sitting on the toilet
Easy to level front to back and side to side with the proper levels (Camco) from Amazon
It makes hot water in less than 10 minutes and its very hot!
Discovered I couldn't charge my Iphone nor Ipad as the outlets don't work without being "hooked up". I knew there would be no AC and microwave but didn't realize the outlets
Learned how to drain the system with "low level" plugs but it doesn't drain hot water heater, that's separate
Every stop we made, someone asked "what is that!"
Enjoy your first trip...

We had the same experience that you mention with the local Denver dealer. They did honor a window repair under warranty; but we were told no further service repairs could be honored. Such a shame, as we purchased from them before. And we have 2 people interested in buying r-pods. Can't recommend the kettlesen dealer. Love our Rpod 179!

We purchased our 171 from Kettleson's. I brought in a complete quote from Couch's and to my surprise, the came very close to matching the deal. They made it very clear that if we purchased elsewhere we would be at the back of the line for service. I believe your dealer will have to work with FR to get you in locally. Hopefully you can find someone more excited to earn your business. Our experience with Kettleson's has been good so far, but I would not be happy with them if I were in your situation.
FYI, I believe you can charge a phone if you plug the phone into the USB outlet on the stereo and select USB as the source. My wife's android didn't like the amount of power provided, but my iPhone charged.
