Topic: Shower drain fixed -still have smell Posted: 06 Jul 2014 at 6:55am |
Progress report: Washed off all the fixtures and walls in the bathroom. Aired out camper Saturday. Closed up for the night. No smell on Sunday am. I'll keep my fingers crossed and pick up a seal on the trip anyway.

I pulled the toilet today. Easy to do until the smell hits you. WOW. i wasn't ready for that. I didn't have new seal so I reset the toilet (tighter) and cleaned things up. I'll see if I can get a new seal when I'm on the road Monday.
Doug - did the dealer's fix take care of the smell?

Same problem with mine, odor definitely coming from inside the bathroom. When it was at the shop recently I had them look at it. They never told me what they did but there was nasty residue in the shower pan so I think they pulled it, they must have replaced that lower seal. Upper seal was fine, the bowl held water.

One thing that's for certain is that there is no short supply of ways a camper can smell bad.

Well, you probably already checked this, but we had an odor problem when the pod was closed up and the bathroom fan was on. Turns out, since we never used the shower there was no water in the trap under the shower, and the fan was sucking foul air out of the shower drain. The fix was to pour some water down the shower drain so the trap could work as it was designed.

Thanks for the replies.
Will check the toilet seal tomorrow. Not sure where I'll get a new one if I need one - but one thing at a time.
The utility vent under the sink isn't the issue this time, although I suspected it once before. Another member mentioned a part on the stove that let out some propane and I think that was the issue. That smell hasn't happened again (yet).
I'll let y'all know how the toilet deal works out. We're going up to Vermont on Monday and it would be nice to have this resolved.

I had a problem with a defective vent/vacuum breaker under the kitchen sink. It's a small black cup shaped device mounted atop a pipe under the sink. Its purpose is to prevent siphoning all water out of the sink p-trap. It allowed odors from the gray tank into the camper, especially if the outside gray tank valve was open and/or the fan was running. Fix was to replace the vent. Smell under the sink/stove for stronger odor.
