Topic: loose light bar Posted: 21 Jun 2014 at 11:48am |
I was washing the pod and noticed that the factory installed light bar at the top rear is loose. I'm not worried about it falling off-it has 6 screws as well as the adhesive.
I seem to remember that someone else had a similar problem. I searched, but didn't find the post. anyway, who had the other light bar issue? what happened?
I will call Forest River on Monday to find out their suggestions.
thanks Vann

Seeing how you have an '09 POD the rear light bar was added years later in a recall. You might try to find out what dealer did the recall work and contact them as well to correct the problem. Goose

We had our lightbar resealed after Camping World brought it to my attention, that it looked like the seal had failed. Ours was delivered with it installed from the factory. After a year of ownership the seal was starting to fail. I contacted the factory and they said that even if it was after the one year warranty, they would authorize a warranty reinstallation, but it had to be at our original dealer. I took it to my delivering dealer and told them to contact the factory for a warranty install. They did and they did a better than factory reinstall. However, they wanted an additional $100 above what the factory would be paying them. I said under no circumstances was I going to pay an additional dime. They gave me my keys and I left. Some dealers just are out for any additional income they can get from the unsuspecting public. Goose, contact the factory and I am sure they will cover it. Safe Travels.

Our light bar was actually factory installed. We were returning from the UP back to North Carolina with our pod. We stopped at the factory and they did the light bar and several other minor things. While we waited, We got a nice tour of the factory-unfortunately, they were not building pods at that particular time. They set up their assembly line for a specific model and make xxx number and then change to another model. It was a great tour and we got some nice Forest River and R Pod stuff.
Anyway, I hope they can just tell me the name of the adhesive caulk-or send a tube -and I would be glad to try the fix myself. Its not in danger of falling off-it's got 3 screws on each side.

I would just get a tube of white or clear silicone.

Forest River is actually investigating right now about the adhesive tape on these light bars and why it isn't holding up. IIRC it was a 3m product used and they are trying to see why it isn't holding up.
If I hear anything else I'll mention it.

I noticed that our light bar is also pulling away from the bottom. It looks like the light bar is slowly warping and pulling away from the body of the rpod.

actually my son just mentioned this to me last night (light bar pulling up on bottom). i noticed this last year, and the top was as well. siliconed the top side, but not bottom, just in case any water did get thru. its screwed down by 7 screws on each side and am assuming wires coming thru the hole is well sealed (i hope!). hogone

I looked at my light bar this morning as I was leaving for work. It has warped and separated from the trailer. Appears one of the screws has pulled loose also. I will be doing a better check tonight.

Kind of glad that I made my own. Used a two part marine epoxy and one screw at each end into the track at the edge to hold it down. No problems so far. Goose
