Calendar Event: Need ideas for stove top cover Posted: 07 May 2013 at 6:00pm |
We just bought our 177! Love, love love it! On a previously owned RV, we had a cutting board with a non slip back that we placed over our stove top. On our 177 stovetop I noticed that the knobs stick up higher than the burner grills. Has anyone found a cutting board that will work with this? Additional counter space would be awesome! Would love to hear your solutions.

We bought a cutting board a bit larger than the stove top, and put legs on it, high enough to clear the knobs.

We took our knobs off since we never use the stove, then I cut the legs that support the cover just tall enough to clear the burners. The knobs are in the top drawer.

Hey, I forgot to ask you: did you order the new counter top from FR, have it made locally, or do it yourself?
It looks great.

Woodpod,
We bought a food grade piece of High Density Polyethylene. I routed out grooves in it for the top and smoothed the edges. Underneath, I carefully measured for legs that sit inside the sink, not outside and fastened them on with stainless steel screws. The legs are also made of food grade HDPE. It works great doesn't slide, makes for more flat space and cuts up stuff as well.

I got a cutting board from Wallyworld big enough to extend past all 4 sides, squared off the sides since it was a bit roundish in shape, mounted some 1/2" x 5" wood pieces on edge to the sides (stained) to raise it up, and then some small rubber adhesive protectors to the bottom to protect the countertop and keep it from moving. Protects the stove, gives me a cutting board to use when cooking, more counter space when not cooking, and doubles as a carrying tray for taking stuff outside.

Got one from FR. Same one that was in it before, they just didn't cut the hole for the stove but went ahead and cut the holes for the faucet and sink for us!
