Topic: electric brakes Posted: 31 Jul 2012 at 3:16pm |
Here is the problem. When I applyed the brake in the truck, the tire on the trailer passenger side locked up and skidded. This happened several time causing damage to tire tread. I adjusted the brake controler it helped a little. This is a brand new pod 177, I was coming from the RV lot to home when this happen. Ive contacted the dealer. Any thoughts?? Thanks
Oh on the R177 panel by the door, the one for battery and water, what doe the letters mean?

The letters are a rough guide to the state of charge of your battery.. C = Charged or 12.6v or better G = Good or 12.4 or better F = Fair or 12.2 or better L = Low or 11.9 or better. ANYTHING below 11.9 hurts your battery exponentially. Never go there if you can help it at all. On the brakes.. my guess is one isn't engaging.. loose wire, stuck shoe, bad magnet. Let the dealer handle it, and don't worry. Oh and welcome to the pod..

Welcome. If the pod is pulling hard to one side all the time, then furpod is right and one of the brakes probably isn't working right.

When ours was delivered we had no brakes working at all. Didn't realize it until we returned from our maiden voyage. Took it to the dealer and it was a case of the brake shoes never having been adjusted. Took 10 minutes and all good. Hope it's that easy. Safe Travels.

What the prob was,was that the brakes on the trailer (passenger side) where grabing. They were not adjusted right from the factory according to RV tech.

Hopefully that will set everything right. If the lock-up damage to the passenger side tire was severe enough, I might consider a claim for replacement.
Safe travels.

Can't speak for anyone else, but ours has been perfectly fine so far in all aspects since we picked it up new 3 weeks ago. Have tested everything on it and all components are working as described, and have spent time out with it over the past 2 weekends looking for any of the issues that have been described online here by others (brakes grabbing or not working, entry holes not sealed properly, water & drain line connections not tight and leaking, and so on) and can't find any of them on ours.
My theory ... a lot of it resides with the dealer that is selling it to check and verify that all is in good working order before they sell it, and from some of the dealer reviews and other comments there appear to be some or many that are not taking the time to do that. Maybe they shouldn't have to check everything out, but things can happen during the build and ship process, and a reputable dealer that is interested in providing good customer service will take the time to ensure that they provide it.
That said, the manager in me wouldn't be able to discern if there is a greater problem today or not with the Pods rolling off the production line without knowing how many are actually being built so that the percentage having issues can be objectionably quantified.

P&M, your right, we have not had any problems with our 2011 RP=172 that we needed to return for warranty repair. If you have a reputable dealer they should do the "Pre Delivery" on it. Auto dealerships do this and are paid by the manufactorer to do so, this keeps silly little adjustments down and reduces warranty costs and boosts ownership loyalaty. The only problem we had was the white plastic door stop was loose because the hole was stripped out, I put the next larger size in and solved the problem. During pickup our dealer went the extra mile to show me every aspect and operation of the pod and we have had no problems.

Camper Bob. It is confusing to me. Aren't the brakes supposed to be self adjusting?
