We have a 152 which is the little brother of the 172 and therefore have no windows on the front of the rpod.  We were planning on putting the cute porthole window in the door like everyone else, but a google search produced this:


It's just like the stock window that comes with the version of our door that has the window option except that the window can open!  Does anyone have experience with this window?  Is it secure enough to open and close daily (door windows are typically held in place by the frames only).

There were some days that we had wanted to sleep with the door open for air ventilation, but for security reasons (racoons etc) we didn't.

I did just order the porthole window but this one opens! 

Any thoughts?

There is a post on the nation forum about putting a vertical slider in the door of an Rpod. Pictures and everything. Huron Sailer posted it.

Would a window that opens on the door be a security issue? i.e. would it make it easier for some one to pry it open and then just stick their hand in and unlock the door from the inside?

Maybe I'm thinking too much....

Theoretically, yes.  But then they could pry open any window and climb in if they wanted to.

I just noticed that this window does not have a screen. I guess it really doesn't need one since there is a screen door between it and the interior.

Now I am wondering if dutch/stable screen doors are available? Because having to exit the 'pod to separate the screen door from the actual door to get to the window to open/close it in the middle of the night would get old quick.

could you take off the screen door and use "As Seen On TV Magic Mesh" in its place?  Then you could adjust the Window.

Just saw these "Magic Mesh" screens at WalMart, if anyone wants to give it a try.

I just had another look at the screen door and think I can remove the current screen (i.e. leaving a screenless hole) and then sewing a new screen that would attach to the frame by velcro. I am just hoping that the adhesive on the velcro part will stay glued to the frame on a hot summer day.

I also just received the porthole window I had ordered earlier.... Ouch  I'd ideally like to install the porthole on the bottom half of the door (in addition to having the vertical open/close window on the top half) so my dog can also look out when we have the door closed in the colder months and are setting up and not ready to have her outside with us yet.  However, this will probably look really weird.

What about porthole on top and square one on the bottom?  Visually that might be ok.
