Well ...we've boiled our choices down to the 171 and 177 models. Thought we'd look at a few more R-Pod videos on-line today and stumbled into a 2012 "Mt Hood Edition" unit. The video was produced by a dealer out of Boise, Idaho and the person doing the presentation explained that this was a special Rocky Mountain version of the R-Pod being built in Oregon and designed for the roads and elevation out west.
Long story short ...we live in Wyoming so this definitely caught our attention. Anybody here on the forum care to comment on this? With the exception of the diamond steel plating across the lower front of the unit (this one happened to be a 171 model) it seemed like the rest of the "special features" could be added to the standard "east of the Mississippi models". Just when we thought we had it pretty much all sorted out now there's a new wrinkle. Help .... Mark J |

I'm not sure, but I think it has the risers on it too.

Here's what I found on a dealer website, Poulsbo RV (http://www.poulsborv.com/forest-river-r-pod-travel-trailer.html) in Washington state:
Forest River R-Pod Hood River Edition
So besides the diamond plate it looks like the axle risers are already installed and it has 15" tires instead of 14" tires -- basically it's ready for rough terrain. |

This is a model produced by the western factory in Dallas, Oregon. You have to contact a dealer west of the Rockies to get one.

I like the diamond plating on the front. That's a mod I'd like to do someday just because I think it looks sharp!

Oh thanks, I'm finding it's an easier way for us to remember specific sites we like and some of the details for when we book the following season without having to sort through the filing cabinet of all the campground maps and notes that we take.

Hello,
First post here,
We just purchasd a 176 Hood River Edition. There are a more few differences in the Hood River Edition in addition to those liste above.
The wood supports in a normal R Pod are 16 inches apart. In the Hood River they are 8 inches apart...much stronger.
The insulation is not the "pink" style but a special sythetic Wool. They claim that this special insulation does not absorb moisture like the pink stuff does.
Cheeers,

Welcome! When I installed shelves in my 'pod (not an HRE), I had to drill holes in the walls and the insulation was white and didn't feel like fiberglass. |

Does anyone know what the price difference is between the regular models and the Mount Hood editions? It seems like a good mechanic could upgrade the wheels and risers. Going from 14" to 15" tires doesn't seem like much.
