Topic: Cold weather question Posted: 26 Nov 2018 at 3:20pm |
We are visiting our former hometown Little Rock Ar with our 2019 189. It is parked at a friends house very tightly between the house and a board fence...so it’s pretty sheltered from the wind. We will leave heading back to NC Wednesday morning. The low temp for the next two nights is 27...50 in the daytime.
Would running the heater in a closed up unit keep things warm enough....also concerned about the hot water heater.
One night on the way home we will be staying with a friend outside Atpants...same weather forecast.
Thanks for your help.

WH can't freeze if it's on....
27F overnight with 50's during the day is no issue.

The water heater should still have water in it even if not connected to water. Just run it on propane and it won't freeze. The heater is a 20,000 btu furnace, it'll will keep the pod warm in 27 degree temps with the door open.

I was instructed to never run the WH unless I was sure it was full of water.

You are correct, always make sure WH has water in it prior to heating.

As furpod said, 27 overnight and 50s daytime is no issue, even without any heating. There will be enough ambient heat left over from the daytime to keep the pipes from freezing, especially with the wind break you have.

Well.. we can only go by the information you give.. Since you were concerned specifically about the WH, I figured you had water in it. If it's empty, then there is no water to freeze, so it can't be damaged.

Didn’t mean to be vague...had not thought about the WH.,..my plan is to run the furnace for an hour or two later tonight...and then shut it off.
