Topic: Porch light Posted: 06 Oct 2018 at 5:51pm |
Help, please. When I turn on the porch light on my RPod 178, it sounds like a fan is running. What is that noise? Is it normal? How do I stop it? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hmmmm. The bathroom light may have been on at the same time. I notice a "fan" noise when I turn the bathroom light on. Even though the bathroom overhead fan is turned off.

Where is the noise coming from? There are no fans directly connected to the lights but I suppose turning on a light could kick the converter into the next gear and cause it's fan to turn on. If that's it, it will go off in a while. (Are you connected to shore-power?)

I was thinking the same thing as TT; maybe the converter kicking up a step. Put your ear down by the converter to see if that is the source of the fan noise.

The fan on our converter has kicked on before unexpectedly and we couldn’t figure out where the noise was coming from.

The noise was coming on when I turn on the bathroom light, not the porch light. But now it's not happening, so it may remain a mystery. That said, I love my pod.

I concur with the converter fan theory. Whether the fan comes on depends on the total 12V load at the time you flip the light on and probably the ambient temperature as well.

When the bulbs in our 2011 177 were still incandescent it was common to hear the converter fan run if we had several lights on. Replacing them with LED bulbs eliminated that. Aren't a;; the 178s LED from the factory?
