Help, please. When I turn on the porch light on my RPod 178, it sounds like a fan is running. What is that noise? Is it normal? How do I stop it? Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Hmmmm. The bathroom light may have been on at the same time. I notice a "fan" noise when I turn the bathroom light on. Even though the bathroom overhead fan is turned off.

Where is the noise coming from?  There are no fans directly connected to the lights but I suppose turning on a light could kick the converter into the next gear and cause it's fan to turn on.  If that's it, it will go off in a while.  (Are you connected to shore-power?)

I was thinking the same thing as TT; maybe the converter kicking up a step. Put your ear down by the converter to see if that is the source of the fan noise.

The fan on our converter has kicked on before unexpectedly and we couldn’t figure out where the noise was coming from.

The noise was coming on when I turn on the bathroom light, not the porch light. But now it's not happening, so it may remain a mystery. That said, I love my pod. %20 -

I concur with the converter fan theory. Whether the fan comes on depends on the total 12V load at the time you flip the light on and probably the ambient temperature as well.

When the bulbs in our 2011 177 were still incandescent it was common to hear the converter fan run if we had several lights on.  Replacing them with LED bulbs eliminated that.  Aren't a;; the 178s LED from the factory?

Keith, new ones probably, my 2015 the front service light and the porch light I changed to LED.

Susie Q,

Put your ear by the converter, hear a fan?

The 2016s also still had incandescent porch and front service lights.

My porch light lens melted, I replaced the bulb and the lens.

Thanks. Right now I can't get the noise to come back. When I do, I'll listen.

Ok. I turned on all the interior lights and then the porch light. Sure enough, the converter fan came on. That was the noise I was hearing. I think the porch light in my 2018 178 is incandescent.

Yay, I'm glad you got it sussed!

That's irritating when you can't located the source of the sound, kinda like locating crickets.

If it is a 2018, I'm pretty sure all the lights are LED at that point. I know all the round "puck" lights in the interior, the tail lights, and all the marker lights are LED. Pretty sure the rest of the lights are LED as well (including the porch light).

Yep. That's EXACTLY what happened to us on our 1st big trip with the new 180. "What's that noise?"
I finally tracked it down to the converter fan.

Thanks to you all. Now, if I could just figure out the photo thing again, I'd post a pic sometime. Tried a search, but the URL cut & paste method (using Flickr) didn't work. Might be an Android thing.

I do want to change mine to LED. Guessing I'd hear that fan less. Less wear and tear on it.
