I did some more patching today. I think I have it close being able to make the trip back to NC. I want to address the front corner which was not as severely damaged, but is nonetheless damaged enough that I don't want to tow it home until I get at least some Gorilla tape over the cracked places. I need to wait for it to be dry again so that the tape will stick.

The repairs so far are with 1/4" lauan p[lywood treated with three coats of polyurethane sealer on both sides.  These are over the top of the Gorilla tape I applied earlier. I got two side-marker lights at Camping World. I used the amber lens from the one to replace the missing one. I had to replace the red marker light fixture as it was broken along with the taillight.  We are blessed that the frame was not affected, so we will be able to get it home and then see about proper repairs.

We finally arrived home. In addition to the repairs pictured above, I used Gorilla Tape to cover the damage on the front. It held up well to the travel. I also used some insulating foam to fill in the gaps around the boards on the rear. It sealed everything up nicely on the return trip.

We stopped at Country Roads RV Center in Lexington, NC. This is the dealer from which we purchased our escaPOD. I also sent the pictures I had taken of the damage before it was covered. They will do a preliminary estimate and determine if it can be fixed. The damage does not seem like much, but it does involve all sides of the Pod with the back and right being the worst. We really could not see what the damage is to the front until we can get it unloaded and get access to the front side under the bed.

I will expect a call so we can schedule a time for me to bring it in to drop off for repairs. In preparation for that, I am removing a lot of the customizations I have done. I was told that it it is totaled, then everything in it would go with it. I want to save things like the kitchen faucet I installed (I will have to leave the sink), the Oxygenics shower head, the shelves and lights, the electric jack, the generator rack, and the BAL underbody spare tire carrier. This is not an exhaustive list. I will be busy for the next few days getting it ready to go.

I do not want to send my dual 6V batteries, so I am looking for an inexpensive 12V battery to have so the brakes will be powered if the trailer becomes disconnected. I was looking at a 12V garden tractor battery at Walmart. It is not a deep-cycle battery, but I think it would be adequate for taking the trailer up and back. Does this sound like a good idea? The one I am considering is the Everstart U1R which sells for $19.87 (plus core charge).

Stephen,

That battery should work for that purpose.

Thanks. I was hoping it would be adequate. I don't want to buy another set of 6V batteries if I can avoid it. The same with my other removable customizations. Some, like the drawer modifications, can't be removed. The good thing about it is that I have the experience now on making them so if I need to do it again in a new one, it will be easier. I should know more in a week or two.

Stephen,

If they are talking in repairable, I would leave nothing I could unbolt and reuse. You'll get nothing for it. Batteries won't matter, and I would take the spare tire carrier and travel rack and anything else I could salvage before it went to the shop. When they total a vehicle, they could care less what mods it has, it's all based on book value. Granted some stuff is permanent and can't be easily undone, but the bolt on stuff that doesn't leave obvious removal damage - take it. My 2 cents.
