Topic: The Blizzard of 2009 Posted: 18 Dec 2009 at 12:37pm |
Looks like its gonna be a big 'un in my area (MD) on Saturday. I love how this storm went from "snow showers" yesterday morning, to "some snow" yesterday evening and now they are calling for "possible blizzard conditions" and 12"-18" snow.
I'm going home early so I can pull the mower deck off my tractor and get the snow blower on, plus the chains. I haven't had to plow my driveway in 4 years, I hope I remember how to rig it up.
I knew we were due for some snow this year, but, wow!

Now they are calling for 2-3 feet, which could break the record made in 2003. Holy -bleep-. If it isn't global warming it must be a really big ice cube sent by aliens. I'm all set, tractor is ready and I have 3 days worth of wood inside or by the porch.

I stocked the wood for our stove tonight so all set there. Batteries are both charged on the r-pod if we lose electric ( which we do with a lot of storms). Gas Propane stove all set right by the back door. Let it snow! But now that I'm ready it will not do anything.

Still snowing here. Managed to get half of my driveway cleared this afternoon (about 200 feet of it) before I got it stuck along the edge in the dirt. Couldn't pull it out with my come-along so there it sits. I just had to go out to clear the sat dish off and the section I cleared earlier has a new layer of 6 inches, so the other section must have 1 1/2 feet. It isn't supposed to get above freezing until Christmas so we may be shoveling some snow tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day....

Oh yeah, the news just said that this storm is on track to beat that 2003 storm which is the all-time record breaker...

All is well here. I kept an eye on the local power company's website and very few people lost power around here. We didn't get the strong winds they were forecasting which probably prevented widespread outages. We got close to 2 feet, but I keep forgetting to take my tape measure out to see for sure. I ended up calling someone to dig out the other 200 feet of my driveway. Schools are already closed tomorrow, but my employer most likely will be on time. Ready for the next one!

I have a friend in Virginia and she stuck a YARD stick in the snow. The last picture i saw was over 22 inches and it was still snowing!
I think we have less then an inch. It was snowing lightly on and off all day. I went to church this morning and my one thought was "how come it is raining or snowing EVERY time I go to church!" I need to remember to bring an umbrella!
